Golf’s Magic - Powerful and Unexpected

Golf’s Magic - Powerful and Unexpected

It only took a few days to see the magic is back.

The Magic of Golf - Powerful and Unexpected

Bear Creek is officially open for the 2013 season!

It's always good get things going. It's fun to see the course shaping up all ready after some nurturing sunshine and release of snow's winter blanket. We're looking forward to a great summer ahead.

After less than a week we've been reminded again of how exciting it will be to see the 'magic' of the golf course unfold. What's the 'magic'?

Golf Course Magic

The magic of the golf course, the magic that we've been privileged to see as a family for nearly 50 years, is the way it brings people together. There is just something about golf, the pace, the feeling of being outside, the opportunity for solitude or companionship (depending how one is feeling that day).

Golf helps us slow down. Golf provides time for clearing our head, catching our breath, and catching up.

While technology continues to speed life up, connecting us every second of every day to life's demands, golf beckons us to unplug for a few timeless minutes. While email, tweets, status updates, and text messages continue to pull us back to life's urgent activities, golf draws us into moments of lasting connections and humble courtesy.

Golf - Game of Integrity and Humility

You keep your own score, penalize yourself, defer to someone in your group who is furthest from the whole. Golf is a game of friendly competition where two competitors today can be partners tomorrow and where handicaps attempt to level the playing field for everyone. Time on the golf course draws the best out of us, when we'll let it.

Age is No Barrier

Golf welcomes young and old. Golf brings generations together, build relational bridges, and provides time and space to connect and reconnect the days, weeks, months, or years.

The golf course is a magical place. It's magic is the best kind - powerful and unexpected.

It only took a few days, a few welcoming smiles, a few laughs in the clubhouse after the seasons' first round to remind us what a privilege it has been to have front row seats to the magic show for nearly half a century.

We're so excited for you to join us and experience this season's magic for yourself.

2013 Junior Golf Program at Bear Creek a Huge Hit!

2013 Junior Golf Program at Bear Creek a Huge Hit!

Six-week developmental program kicks off for the kids on July 9th at practice area.

Bear Creek Junior Golf Program "Full" for 2013

The second year of the revitalized Bear Creek Junior Golf program is primed and ready for a fantastic summer. The program is "sold out" with twenty juniors of various ages and abilities have signed up.

We're thrilled to see the youth in our community getting into a game that truly is a sport for a lifetime. We appreciate the efforts and energy of Jill Sheley and the other volunteers who are making this possible.

The participants benefit from personal coaching, having loaner clubs available during the program, and integrating practice and playing with an adult companion on the course. While the program is in session we are offering discouted green fees Sunday noon through Thursday evening (Wednesday evenings excluded for Mens' Night). Junior in the program can play 9-holes for $6. An adult playing companion can play along for only $15. Regular rates apply Friday, Saturday, and Sunday until noon.

Juniors who complete the entire 6-week program can finish the season with the same discounted rates Sunday afternoon through Thursday.

The season will wrap-up with a BBQ, tournament and competitions on August 15th.

Blogging - Who Says You Can’t Teach a ‘Gently Aging’ Dog New Tricks?

logging - Who Says You Can’t Teach a ‘Gently Aging’ Dog New Tricks?

Blogging?! Facebooking?! At the same time?! Who-da thunk? Some things change. Others things stay the same heading into 2013.

Greetings from Bear Creek Golf Course.

Haven’t written a blog before, so this is another adventure for me – one of many since coming back to Bear Creek.

I’ve also attempted some tasks on Facebook.   I definitely haven’t begun to even understand totally how the page works but baby steps and many do-overs are helping me exercise my brain muscle. Hope you will check us out - www.facebook.com/bearcreekgolfcoursewinthrop - and give a thumbs up (Oh, I guess that’s called “Like” us) if you feel so inclined.  If you don’t have a Facebook account, you can still see what’s happening by following the link.

We’ve included a historical timeline on Facebook. There are some fun facts and photos about Bear Creek Golf Course’s beginnings.  What an undertaking for Ash’s family to turn a cow pasture into such a pleasure for so many!  Take a peek at how it evolved.

Once you’ve seen the background and looked at some pictures where the trees on the fairways were only twigs in the ground, come check out the changes and see what a beautiful course it has become.

Our snow is melting, so it won’t be too much longer before the green over takes the white and golfing can begin.

Looking forward to seeing you!
